Media Council of Kenya (MCK) boss Harun Mwangi wants some Nyeri leaders charged in court for assaulting journalists.

The council has received three cases so far, one of which is about Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) of Nyeri who assaulted journalists who were doing their work.

Standard Group's reporter Lydia Nyawira is among those who were assaulted.

"On August 23, 2016 Standard Group's Lydia Nyawira and Nation Media Group's Grace Gitau were attacked by MCAs while covering the Nyeri County Assembly session," read the claim by Media Council to the DPP in part.

Just a day earlier, on August 22, Jane Wangeci, another journalist was allegedly physically assaulted by a nominated MCA in Lamu County.

Ms Wangeci has since recorded a statement at the Mpeketoni Police Station.
