The County Education Board will take action against school headteachers who have allowed holiday tuition despite it having been outlawed.

The board attributed the torching of a dormitory at Butula Boys Secondary to keeping students in school after the closing date issued by the Ministry of Education

"We have directed the Secretary to the County's Education Board, Rebecca Butalanyi, to collect information on schools in the county that violated the directive on closing date and continued with holiday teaching," said Prof Stephen Odebero, the chairman of the board.

He said the board would recommend appropriate action against erring principals.

Odebero, a lecturer at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, said they had established that Form Four students were doing their evening preps when the Butula Boys' arson attack happened.

"We are requesting parents that they should not be releasing students to attend tuition because students need to rest after staying in school for a whole term," he said.

The Ministry of Education directed schools to close on August 12, 2016, after the second term and resume on August 29.

The education board has, at the same time, assured that it had put in place measures to ensure performance at Butula Boys is not affected by the arson.
