Why Bungoma makes news than any other county in Kenya

Some tribes or parts of Kenya are news makers. Kenyans will pay more attention to news coming from Nyeri, Kisii and Bungoma, just to name a few.

My interest however shifts to Bukusu subtribe in Bungoma County. I am not biased nor have a negative attitude about the sub-tribe but how the County has been hogging the limelight of main stream media. The news often has always left Kenyans reeling in shock and surprised by events in this County. From Jehova who claimed to be God, Saleh "James Bond" Wanjala who risked his life by hanging on a helicopter in Posta Grounds in Bungoma to politicians who are key newsmakers in political arena.

In towns or even institutions of higher learning you will notice them easily. A friend once narrated to me how a young man after being admitted at a local university in Nairobi shocked his colleagues for his insatiable desire food. It is alleged that on his first day at campus he was disappointed by the small size of Ugali that was being served at a university mess. He had to buy ten pieces of Ugali alongside Githeri to calm his hunger. His friend who also hails from the same County had bought seven Chapatis. They were heard saying.

Dressing code is their major undoing. Don’t be surprised when you see a fresher in an old Manchester United tee-shirt and a baggy official trouser. Never dismiss him lest you fall in the wrong hands.

In politics, they have made history in Kenya by having candidates in almost all presidential elections. Kukubo who is unknown to many has often been resurfacing during polls and join other presidential candidates. The famous phrase "Tukutane kwa depe" by former Bumula legislature Bifwoli Wakoli rocked Kenyans in 2012.  For them it is not about winning elections but being in the race.
