Two MPs ditch Opposition for Uhuru's Jubilee

Two MPs have denounced ODM, saying they will engage in massive poaching of other like-minded MPs from the Opposition.

Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi and his Mathare counterpart Stephen Kariuki told President Uhuru Kenyatta that they are ready to be ejected from the party for the sake of supporting Jubilee.

Mr Aburi said he started supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga when he was a young boy, and time had come for him to move on.

"I told Raila Odinga that I supported him in 2013, but he should not expect me to be on his bandwagon. Let him know that in 2017, I will be in Jubilee alongside President Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri among others," he said.

The leaders were speaking at Nanyuki Stadium during Mr Kiunjuri's homecoming ceremony, which Uhuru attended. The leaders praised the Jubilee administration for initiating development projects, adding that the Opposition was only dwelling on propaganda to paint a bad picture of the Government.

Mr Kariuki, who was among a few MPs who were allowed to address the mammoth gathering, said he has seen the Government initiate development projects in his constituency, despite him being an Opposition MP. He said he does not fear being attacked by ODM goons or even being ejected from House committees as the Opposition is doing to rebel MPs.

"I am now the conductor of a bus that is poaching opposition MPs and I cannot be a conductor and still remain in the Opposition. I cannot remain in a party where people only make noise without anything to show to the electorate," he said.

Kiunjuri said the Opposition was intimidating Cabinet secretaries.
