I have not received motion on Waiguru yet, says National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is yet to receive the motion seeking to impeach beleaguered Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

Mr Muturi, who spoke as Ms Waiguru appeared before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), said should he receive the Special Motion being pushed by Nandi Hills lawmaker Alfred Keter, his office would have three days within which to consider if it met the legal and constitutional threshold for approval.

But Mr Keter said he would today issue a notice of impeachment motion against Waiguru.

Keter who spoke at Parliament Buildings following the disclosure by Muturi that he had not received the motion seeking to remove Waiguru, said he is certain the motion would go through.

He said there was enough evidence to ensure the motion run full cycle, adding that the specifics they have against the beleaguered CS met the constitutional and legal threshold.

While seeking to make it clear that he had nothing personal against Waiguru, Keter said the impeachment would give the accused an opportunity to clear her name of the allegations.

He said it was only through proper investigations in the ministry that Kenyans would get to know the truth about the ministry that has been riddled with numerous corruption claims.

“At least 180 MPs have signed and we expect the number to increase to 200 legislators by tomorrow,” said Keter.

While noting that MPs were at liberty to prepare any form of business including a Special Motion like that of Keter, Muturi said no motion seeking the removal of a Cabinet secretary had been brought before him.
