Mau region emerges the top at National Athletics Competition held in Kisii County

Mau region emerged the top at just concluded National Athletics Competition for primary schools held at Kisii University sports ground in Kisii County on Friday 12th June to Saturday 13th June.

Mau region  showed outstanding performance as they won several trophies in both field and track events. They were followed by Nzoia region (Western Kenya) Lake region (Nyanza province), Metropolitan (Nairobi region), Highlands (Meru Eatern region) Aberdare central and Coast came the last. North Eastern region was however not represented.

Speaking during the closing ceremony the chief guest, Vice President Kenya Athletics David Okeyo thanked all the participants who graced the occasion making it a success. He further warned cases of faking age by participants as it attracted penalties. “I wish to warn teachers against faking the age of participants as it attracts penalties” warned Okeyo. He recalled last year’s incident where two participants were nullfied after it was established that they had lied about their real age.

Those who emerged winners are set to represent Kenya in Colombia.

Next year’s event will be held in Nzoia region.
