The fortnightly Standard Group (SG) mentorship programme, Mentenda, which targets young men in secondary schools, is now in full throttle.

Initiated by the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) and its partner Transform Nations, the project saw SG staff spend time with students of Highway Secondary School in Nairobi last weekend.

The initiative comes at a time when the boy-child is facing many challenges, with experts saying efforts to empower the girl-child have seen the boy-child pushed to the periphery.

“If we do not model our young men now, we will have a gender crisis to address in a not-too-far future,” said KCDF Programme Co-ordinator Gathii Kanyi.

And after only two sessions, the SG Mentenda mentors said they were amazed and encouraged by the response from the students. They said the students appreciated the initiative.
