Uncle Moody Awori is alive: Twitter rumours about Former Vice President's death refuted

News
Former Vice President Uncle Moody Awori

Former Vice President, Dr. Moody Awori, is not dead.  This is after internet rumours spread news that the veteran politician had passed on.

In a race to be the first to break the news, several local blogs tweeted about his ‘death’ and even went as far as publishing stories on the same.

In their reports they said the Moody ‘had passed on after a long illnes'.

Kenyans on Twitter on Tuesday evening also took to the platform to spread the ‘sad news’.

Several tweets were posted with many online users sending condolence messages amidst massive confusion as there was no official communication from family or close relatives to Uncle Moody.

At around 11:00 P.M. however, it emerged the rumours were not true after credible sources close to the family refuted the reports.

ODM Director of Communications, Philip Etale, asked Kenyans to ignore the rumours.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Hon. Moody Awori’s daughter says Mzee is well and in bed. Please ignore this bad joke,” reads his tweet.

Twitter users immediately reacted to this with some asking the online fraternity who had tweeted about Uncle Moody’s death to delete the posts, and apologise:

@MarkDienya: KOT should learn to verify information, especially regarding death before going viral. Why are they killing Moody Awori? #Apologize

@Steve_Raheem: Those with RIP tweets kindly pull them down. Moody Awori is not dead.

@254Chista: People want to kill Moody Awori! That is not wise. Talk about something you are sure of on social media because people read what you write.

@Erickogi:  KOT have a problem and if not addressed, we are in big trouble-The propaganda about Moody Awori.
