Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nyanza representative on the National Executive Committee (NEC), Tom Alila, could be setting himself up for trouble with the national office after demanding that the FKF president and his deputy should quit.

Alila was suspended last year when he and others took the federation to court, but he was let off the hook and reinstated to the NEC.

But his latest outburst in a personal statement dated yesterday indicates a serious rift in FKF that has seen top officials exchange harsh words bordering on slander on social media. Alila said yesterday that Sam Nyamweya and Robert Asembo should quit because of the discrepancies arising from a contract the federation has with a European marketing firm, MP & Silva, which is the subject of major controversy.

"The contract between the federation and MP & Silva is shrouded in mystery and discrepancy. It has now emerged that it was signed with a wrong league in mind..." said Alila, adding: "I sit on the FKF National Executive Committee but we were never informed or given details of the contract. The nearest I came to seeing it was when the president casually showed it to me at a meeting of the NEC."

"This happened when I wrote to the sponsor to demanding (sic) to see the contract after it emerged that there were serious discrepancy (sic) regarding the signatures of premier league clubs which had been inserted without their authority," he claimed.

Alila has asked why Harambee Stars were included in the contract with MP & Silva when their matches are not organised by FKF but by continental governing body, CAF.

"We cannot have a national president of a football organisation obtaining contracts that are not binding legally and expect the NEC to be bound by it," he charged.

Alila also raised the issue of Nyamweya's name appearing on a list of corruption suspects drawn up by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. The list was read out in Parliament by President Uhuru Kenyatta two months ago.

He also said FKF's statute was not in compliance with the Sports Act, adding this would put the federation on a collision course with the Government. Alila claimed Nyamweya was intimidating officials into endorsing him as a sole candidate for the polls.
