Shabana were clearly one of the favourites when the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League season kicked off but less than 10 matches down the line, things seem to be going downhill for the Gusii side. The team slumped to their third loss in a row a 1-0 loss to St. Joseph at Afraha Stadium on Sunday. For die hard supporters of the club, it is a performance that is bound to raise the red flag.

But head coach James Nandwa remains optimistic that the poor run will soon come to an end. “It will take a while for the team to perform, but we are playing well. Its poor finishing that lets us down,” he said.

”My biggest task now is to ensure the strikers are able to convert all their chances.”

 FINISH REPAIRS

Nandwa admitted that playing away from home is taking a toll on the players. “All our matches are away and the traveling is taking a toll on us. We are requesting the Kisii County government to finish repairs at Gusii Stadium so that can continue playing our home matches at the venue,” he pleaded.

It is a request echoed by Shabana Organising Secretary Steven Kyama. “The playing surface is in good shape all that remains is for the perimetre wall to be enhanced. The County Government ought to ensure the work is finished as soon as possible,” said Kyama.

Zoo Kericho enhanced their position at the top of the log with an unlikely 2-1 win over Modern Coast and looks set to put up a brave fight for the title.

The Kericho side have been enjoying the great support of the County government. Nzoia Sugar and Kariobangi Sharks produced the biggest wins of the weekend. Nzoia beat Talanta 3-1, while Sharks thrashed Bidco 3-0 at home.
