Plan for 8 more hospitals in Mombasa

Mombasa county government plans to set up eight referral centres to de-congest Coast General Hospital, Chief Health Officer Khadijah Shikely has announced.

She said in Mombasa yesterday that the proposed new hospitals will offer inpatient and outpatient services and will be established in Mvita, Nyali, Likoni, Kisauni, Changamwe and Jomvu.

Dr. Shikely further said the other two hospitals will be built in the areas that lack the health facilities in the county.

“We have identified some of the hospitals and we aim to upgrade them to serve the public,” she said.

Shikely further said that in future Coast General Hospital will handle only special medical cases.

“We are tired of coming up with programmes in which the local people are not involved, now, they must be fully involved,” Shikely said.
