Jubilee to discipline MCAs behind last week's Nakuru assembly chaos

The Jubilee Alliance has vowed to take disciplinary action against Nakuru Members of County Assembly (MCAs) responsible for the chaos witnessed in the assembly last week.

Officials from URP and TNA sent by the presidency met with the warring MCAs at a Nakuru hotel to deliberate on the recent fracas.

Joint secretaries

The team chaired by Patrick Ngatia comprises TNA Executive Director Joseph Maathai and his URP counterpart David Koech as joint secretaries.

"We are here to investigate what happened and the underlying issues and later compile a report that will be presented to the coalition principals," said Mr Ngatia.

The team has one week to carry out probe and come up with recommendations, which will be presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

Others in the team include Dorothy Jemator of the TNA dispute resolution team and URP national organising secretary George Ayugi.

Among those who attended the two-hour meeting was Speaker Susan Kihika and MCAs from both factions, one led by Majority Leader Samuel Waithuki and the other by his predecessor Njenga Mwaura, who have been fighting for the Majority Leader's position.

The meeting came after Mr Ruto visited Nakuru over the weekend and cautioned that the Government would not condone such behaviour.

"We will crack the whip. Assemblies are houses of debate and uncivilised fighting must stop," he said.

Meet governor

The Jubilee team is also expected to meet with Governor Kinuthia Mbugua who has steered away from the wrangles.

"This was an introductory meeting and we have already paid a courtesy call on the Speaker and we will later meet with the Governor," Mr Ngatia added.

"We will come up with recommendations which will stop such occurrences in future,'' said Mr Koech.

Sources say the coalition is determined to rein in errant MCAs to serve as a lesson to other counties.
