Police looking for owner of gun left at city hotel poolside

Nairobi, Kenya: Mystery surrounds the ownership of a pistol found at a swimming pool of a high-end city hotel on Tuesday evening.

The find comes barely a week after police recovered three other pistols, whose owners said had been stolen.

The Glock pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition was found abandoned near the poolside of the Norfolk Hotel by the hotel attendants. Police said they were yet to know who the owner of the pistol is.

“We were called by the security officials at the hotel over the discovery,” said an officer aware of the investigation.

The hotel management said it was investigating to find out if the pistol was forgotten by a customer who was out for swimming sessions.

Police also said the discovery as they recovered two pistols that had been robbed off from two police officers in separate incidents in the city months ago.

The pistols were recovered from three suspected thugs who had been shot dead by police in Uthiru in a botched carjacking incident.

According to police, one of the pistols, a Ceska with 14 rounds of ammunition, was stolen from a police officer on August 6, 2013 in Uhuru Park.

The second pistol had been robbed from a police officer along city streets on April 4, 2014 and had 14 bullets but was found with two.

Police said they had also established that a Glock pistol recovered from two suspects gunned down along Kimathi street last Thursday was owned by a civilian who was attacked along Landhies street.

“Recovering such weapons is not easy and we hope we will reduce the number of guns in the wrong hands,” said police spokeswoman Zipporah Mboroki.
