Address plight of Kenyans, Deputy President William Ruto tells leaders

Leaders should always be mindful of the plight of Kenyans in all their endeavours, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

Mr Ruto told leaders to engage in activities that alleviate the problems facing wananchi because Kenyans put them in leadership positions to serve that purpose.

He cautioned leaders against wasting a lot of time chasing things that are only for their own benefit at the expense of the electorate.

"As leaders, we should always look at the plight of the people we represent and do the needful to end the suffering. We should not be self-centered at all," said Ruto.

The Deputy President said leaders should not waste a lot of their time enhancing their own political causes.

Ruto who spoke on Sunday at the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church in Githurai Kimbo during a fundraiser said prayers are instrumental in the unity and harmony of any country and therefore urged Christians to pray for the nation.

"The Jubilee Government shall equally serve people and develop all areas of the country irrespective of where they come from and their political affiliation," he said.

He urged Kenyans to support the Government so that it can deliver election pledges.

Jubilee leaders present who included Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Senator Kimani Wamatangi and over 10 MPs claimed the International Criminal Court (ICC) is trying to undermine the sovereignty of the country by summoning President Uhuru Kenyatta to appear before it.

"The sovereignty of Kenya rests with the people who unanimously elected the President. As the people who gave him the power, we are telling him not to go before the ICC," said Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo.

Two Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) MPs, Dan Kazungu (Malindi) and his Lunga Lunga counterpart Khatib Mwashetani, who accompanied the Deputy President, urged President Kenyatta not to honour the ICC summons that requires him to appear before the court early next month. In what seemed as directed to the ICC, Ruto said they tried to block him and Uhuru from occupying the highest office in the land but failed. He said their fresh bid of laying a trap for them will fail.
