Man commits suicide after wife dumps him

Kakamega, Kenya: A man in Malava, Kakamega County has committed suicide after his wife allegedly left for Dubai with another man.

Misiko Amunga Andika, 40, hanged himself two weeks after his wife left him.

Neighbours who spoke to The Standard said the wife is reported to have been seen in Nairobi with another man before flying out of the country.

Robert Murunga said Andika has been stressed over the issue of his wife leaving him and that his health had been deteriorating each day. Murunga explained that the deceased had been married for more than 20 years and could not understand why his wife had left him.

"The man had been saying he would kill himself if his wife does not come back. He kept saying he did not see the need to continue living when someone he trusted left him and that he could not get another wife at his age," Murunga said.

Confirming the incident, Malava Deputy OCPD Francis Mburu said the man is believed found to have committed suicide in his house by hanging himself with a rope.

Mburu said investigations on the matter are ongoing. He said the body has been taken to Kakamega mortuary.

The police boss termed the incident as unfortunate and called on residents to not take their lives away when left by their lovers. He advised that the best solution to such cases was to accept and move on.
