Father poisons daughter, son and attempts suicide after domestic row

Subukia, Kenya: A 30-year-old man poisoned his two children and attempted to commit suicide in Arash, Subukia Sub County.

Subukia police boss Alex Ng’ang’a said Dennis Mwangi poisoned his five-year-old son and four-year-old daughter after having a dispute with his wife.

Mr Ng’ang’a said the dispute had led to the separation of the couple on June 30 with the wife taking the children to her parents’ home.

The police boss said Mwangi yesterday visited the home while his wife had left for work and convinced his mother-in-law that he wanted to see the children.

On arrival at his home with the children, Mwangi forcefully poisoned them, said the police boss.

“The children cried for help that attracted neighbours who found them lying on the floor of their house with foam in their mouths,” said Ng’ang’a.

Neighbours rushed them to Subukia health centre for treatment where the boy died, but the girl is receiving treatment at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru.

Police have commenced investigation and will charge Mwangi with murder once he is out of hospital.
