Cardinal Njue calls for quality education to boost social, economic growth

NAIROBI, KENYA: Catholic Archbishop John Cardinal Njue has urged Kenyans to provide genuine and quality education for their children.

Njue noted that this was the only way to build a cohesive and productive society adding that with proper education, the Kenyan society would be able to make major strides in development.

The primate made the remarks during a ground-breaking ceremony for an extension block of Thomas Burke Primary School in Nairobi’s Buruburu Estate.

According to the school director Moses Kago, who is also the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church parish priest, the new building is estimated to cost about Sh100 million.

Fr Kago told The Standard that the building, expected to be completed by December, would have four floors that will include classrooms, a computer laboratory and a hall among other facilities.

Also to be housed in the building are the nursery and pre-unit classrooms. Currently, the church building is used by the two during weekdays and on weekends it is open for mass.

Cardinal Njue appealed to Christians to take the project seriously as it was meant to serve their children and generations to come.

“Take this project seriously, own it and let it become your project and make it self reliant because times when we used to rely on aid from outside are over,” he added.
