MPs not ‘errand boys’ for Executive

By GEOFFREY MOSOKU

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has said the House will not be used as rubber stamp by the Executive to pass unpopular proposals.

He told the Executive to observe timelines by ensuring that it gives the National Assembly adequate time to scrutinise crucial documents before they are passed. Addressing the MPs, Mr Muturi blamed the national Treasury for ambushing Parliament to pass Executive decisions in a huff.

The Speaker made the statement after the National Treasury submitted the Medium Term Debt Management Strategy and the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement last Friday for consideration.
