Kericho, Kenya: Former Mau and Embobut forest settlers have been assured of getting title deeds from the government for the parcels of land acquired for them.

Kericho County Senator Charles Keter said the government had set aside Sh2.6 billion for the resettlement of former Mau and Embobut forest settlers as well as other (IDPs) in the country.

He said the Jubilee government is committed to tackling the issue of squatters in the country, with President Uhuru Kenyatta having spent a whole week in Mombasa County issuing over 60,000 title deeds to coastal residents.

The legislator was speaking in Soin/Sigowet constituency during a fundraising event at Musaria Secondary School, where he rubbished calls for a referendum.

He said the calls were unnecessary, as the government had allocated 34 per cent of the revenue collection to the counties without the country being subjected to a referendum.

“Raising it to 40 per cent, which is what the governors are agitating for, would not be a big deal because it is in the Jubilee manifesto and can be done without the country being forced into a referendum,” said Keter.

Keter asked the Cord coalition to give the Jubilee government a chance to implement its manifesto in peace.
