Daring muggers take over Landhies Road

Thieves are attacking women through matatu windows on Landhies Road.

The Nairobian has learnt that an area outside the Muthurwa market has become the latest hotspot for snatch-and-run thieves who mainly target women’s bags and phones.

One of the victims, Isha, told The Nairobian how she lost her phone outside the popular Muthurwa market.

She had pulled out her mobile from her handbag when a young man suddenly grabbed it through the window and fled.

Julia Majale’s phone and handbag were also snatched while in traffic at the same point by two young men in their 20s and 30s. The perpetrators stand by the roadside on the lookout for unsuspecting passengers, then pounce on their victims when there is traffic jam.

The crime has been rampant that even drivers and conductors make announcements in matatus warning passengers to be cautious.

Central OCPDPatrick Oduma told The Nairobian the cases have not been reported.

“But now that I have heard from you, The Nairobian, we will beef up security in the area,” he promised.

He called on the public to report such crimes so police can take action.
