Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National Executive Committee has formed various commissions, councils and committees to manage the game in the country.
The women’s national coach David Lung’aho heads Coaches Commission that also has KVF Central Rift branch secretary Paul Gitau (secretary), Catherine Mabwi, Esther Jepkosgei, Moses Wangombe, Leonard Karani, David Nabibia and Joseph Kosgei (ex-officio member).
Other committees are: Referees Commission chaired by Miendo Salamba, Beach Volleyball Council (Patricia Hughes Scott), National League Council (Walter Otieno), National Youth Development Council (Charles Nyaberi), Marketing Committee (Kipkemei Sirma) and Finance Committee (Kenneth Tonui).
The KVF also created the position of Audit to be headed by Edward Kisaka, Disciplinary and Appeals Committee (Joseph Kosgei) and Legal Advisor (Njeri Onyango).
Meanwhile, national women’s team to the 2010 FIVB World Championship will be named in Eldoret next week.
KVF Secretary General Evans Wasike said the provisional squad would be named during the third leg of the National League-cum-Amarco National Open tournament to be played on May 28-30.
Wasike said: "We are likely to see a mix of youthful and more experienced players making the provisional squad that the KVF has indicated will start training soon following the Eldoret trip."
Hidohiro Irisawa, a senior volleyball coach from Japan who is in Kenya under Japam International Co-operation Agency programme, will coach the team assisted by Kenya Prisons tactician David Lung’aho.
Lung’aho has led Prisons women’s team to two continental titles in the last three years with the latest triumph in Mauritius early this month.
Wasike said the selection process was likely to be herculean task for the coaches who are spoilt for choice from abundant talent existing among women volleyball in Kenya.
"Indeed it is not a surprise that the three Kenyan teams (Prisons, Pipeline and Kenya Commercial Bank) swept all opposition aside in the recent African Clubs Championship in Mauritius to take all podium positions, while Kenyan players took eight individual awards in various categories," said Wasike.
