Police in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County are holding in custody a 27-year-old man accused of killing his wife.

Solomon Kiplimo is alleged to have killed his partner, 23, in the wee hours of Monday, June 14 after he allegedly caught her in bed with another man.

Kiplimo, who works in Nairobi, reportedly travelled to Iten, 350 kilometers away, on Sunday, June 13 after being informed that his spouse was allegedly cheating on him.

Keiyo North Sub-County Police Commander Tom Makori told The Standard Kiplimo stabbed his wife multiple times in the stomach and chest after allegedly finding her in bed at her suspected lover’s house.

Upon arriving home from Nairobi on Sunday, Kiplimo is said to have inquired from his neighbours where his wife’s alleged lover, identified as Dan Mwangi, lived.

“In the wee hours of Monday morning, he stormed Mwangi’s house in Kapsho Estate and found his wife in bed with the man,” said area police boss, Makori.

“He, immediately, began assaulting the two. Mwangi, however, escaped. The suspect, thereafter, whipped out a kitchen knife and stabbed his wife multiple times in the stomach and chest,” added Makori.

The police boss said Makori, who stays in Nairobi due to work, had been suspecting his wife was cheating on him.

“Neighbours allegedly told him that while he was away, his wife was living with her suspected lover in his house. That was why he travelled from Nairobi to Iten; to confirm or dismiss his neighbours’ allegations,” said Makori.

The police chief said the suspect turned himself in at the Iten Police Station at 9:30am Tuesday.

“He (Kiplimo) confessed to killing her,” said Makori.

Police are now looking for Mwangi to record a statement that would reveal the circumstances surrounding his alleged lover’s death.

“We can’t say he (Mwangi) is a suspect in the woman’s death. He and the woman were of age, and whatever they were doing is not an offence in law,” said Makori.

It remains unclear whether Kiplimo and his spouse had any children, or for how long they had been married.

Makori said they are intending to charge Kiplimo with murder.

The body of the suspect’s spouse was taken to Iten County Referral Hospital morgue pending postmortem.
