Beautiful, healthy skin is a reflection of what you eat, and how you take care of yourself in general. Your skin is a reflection of what is going on in your body therefore vitamins play a crucial role in enhancing skin health.

Here are 5 vitamins that will benefit your skin.

Vitamin A –

This vitamin helps control acne, maintains eye health, and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. It is a fat soluble vitamin which penetrates the cell wall and affects the appearance of your skin from the inside. It helps the skin rebuild tissues, bringing new, fresh skin cells to the surface.

Vitamin A is available in its active form from butter, eggs, liver, cheese and cod liver oil. Vegetables such as carrots and sweet potatoes contain Vitamin A in it’s “raw” form. Therefore these need to be converted into a usable form within the body. If you can’t go outside without your sunglasses, you may have a vitamin A deficiency.

Vitamin C –

This is one of my favourite vitamins as it is the “healing vitamin”. It’s anti-inflammatory therefore it brightens your complexion, tightens your skin while helping with breakouts. It stimulates collagen production, which keeps your skin firm and youthful. Using vitamin C daily will also improve the texture of your skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

You can use vitamin C both internally and externally. For topical use, you can make a DIY mask or toner. Just add a little fresh lemon juice or half a teaspoon of Vitamin C powder to the other ingredients. Vitamin C is acidic so ensure that you test it on your jawline to check for sensitivity, as too much can cause irritation.

Vitamin E –

Is a powerful anti-aging secret that keeps your skin looking soft and supple while reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Vitamin E blocks free radical damage thereby allowing your skin to heal and thrive.

For a mini manicure, break open a Vitamin E capsule and massage it into your cuticles. To prevent lines and wrinkles, apply it underneath your eyes at night. Foods that are high in vitamin E include raw nuts, avocados, olives, and spinach.

B Vitamins –

Biotin which is one of the B vitamins works to improve the health of your skin, nails, and hair, while vitamin B6 regulates your hormones. B3 boosts blood circulation, while B1 assists the body to get rid of toxins.

If you have chapped lips you’re probably deficient in Vitamin B2 and B3. B vitamins are found in tomatoes, egg yolks, whole grains and nuts and seeds.

Vitamin K –

This is a vitamin that most of us ignore. It is a fat-soluble vitamin that’s important for blood clotting. Therefore this vitamin helps lighten the dark circles under the eyes. Vitamin K can also help to reduce the appearance of varicose veins, thereby improving the overall appearance of your skin. It is available in leafy vegetables, broccoli, meats, beans, and eggs.

Healthy lifestyle choices can help keep your skin at its best while delaying the natural aging process and preventing various skin problems.
