Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo vows to fight graft in Police Service

Kenya: Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo says he is deeply concerned with revelations the police remain the most corrupt institution in the country.

He said only a few corrupt police officers are tarnishing the otherwise good name of the Service and urged for public support in dealing with the menace.

Mr Kimaiyo warned any officer found or accused of corruption that they would be sacked and charged in court.

“Let me warn here again. We have done it in the past but I wish to repeat that we will henceforth deal with the giver and taker in this thing,” said Kimaiyo.

He urged the public to always carry gadgets that can help document any corrupt officer.

He was reacting to reports that showed the service had been ranked the most corrupt in the Global Corruption Barometer released by Transparency International (TI) on Tuesday. He spoke during the handing over of 23 police vehicles from the British government yesterday.

Some 1,121 Kenyans interviewed across the country perceived the police, Parliament, Judiciary and political parties as most corrupt institutions in the country.
