Former Githunguri MP Arthur Magugu dies

Former Finance Minister and Githuguri MP Arthur Magugu has died.

Magugu who has been sick for almost five years died at his Ridgeways home in Githunguri.

He suffered a stroke and went into a coma for all that time and had sought medical attention at various places.

His family converted a room at his home into a ward where he was being attended to by a nurse on a daily basis.
Magugu, born in 1934, was Finance Minister between 1982 and 1988.

He gained the dubious distinction as being the first Finance Minister to delay the reading of the Budget speech — reading it in July instead of June.

He was a Kanu MP representing Githunguri from 1969 to 1988 when he was toppled by former VP Josephat Karanja and in 2002 to 2007 when he fell sick.
