The girl child: She is no longer safe

At 10 a.m. I was at work, busy punching keys on my laptop as I prepared for a lesson. My colleagues were busy doing the same while others were on their phones. One particular telephone call made me quit what I was doing to listen to the rest of the conversation. Then the conversation ended and we all looked up curious to know what happened.

According to my colleague, an eight year old girl had been defiled by her father. Her teacher noticed that she was withdrawn and seemed to be in pain asked her what was wrong. She explained she had backaches. She asked her why. Apparently, the mother stays upcountry while the girl stays with the father in Nairobi. Her father had raped her.
