Kenyans thrilled by 5 special US choppers on reconnaissance mission

Nairobi, Kenya: A section of Nairobians were thrilled by five American planes on a reconnaissance mission that made trips around the city before landing and taking off from Kenyatta University Grounds.

The five, which included a chopper and four Boeing V-22 Osprey aircraft, first hovered over Nairobi before landing at KU grounds causing panic.

Officials said the pilots were on a drill and reconnaissance missions ahead of the arrival of the US president and his team on Friday.

After landing, some students rushed to the field and took the photos before sharing them on social media.

The green chopper and the four Osprey aircrafts later flew back to the Old JKIA airport where they were parked to wait for the arrival of the president.

Boeing V-22 Osprey is not an ordinary helicopter since it can fly at a very high speed, 78-times the speed of the ordinary chopper.

This aircraft is basically designed to evacuate the US president in case of security emergency.

According to Boeing website, the V-22 Osprey is a joint service multirole combat aircraft utilizing tilt rotor technology to combine the vertical performance of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft.

The Boeing V-22 Osprey is classified as a large helicopter, and can be used for military missions.

The aircraft can transport 24 passengers unlike ordinary helicopter that carries hardly five people.

With the presence of the planes, there are speculations that the Obamas will fly to most places they are scheduled to visit. The places include national parks and Kasarani stadium, where he will make a public address.

President Obama is expected to attend a White House initiative- Global Entrepreneurs Summit, which gathers entrepreneurs and investors from around the world and is aimed at showcasing innovative projects and spurring economic opportunity.

The visit is expected to command considerable global attention because of its huge symbolic importance. More than 3,000 people are expected at the meeting.
