NCPWD backs DP on new hospital

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has thrown its weight behind Deputy President William Ruto over the establishment of a new referral hospital in Eldoret.

Council Chair David Sankok said the council had advised the Government to establish a new facility because Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) lacks amenities required by PWD.

Speaking in Narok yesterday, Mr Sankok said physically challenged interns have kept off practising in the facility due to lack of ramps.

"As a council, we saw that it is economically viable for the Government to establish a new facility at a cost of Sh28 billion instead of upgrading MTRH at a cost Sh17 billion," said Sankok.

He dismissed claims that the public will lose Sh11 billion in the proposed project on a 200-acre parcel of Prisons land.

He urged politicians to desist from politicising the issue.
