Plots and ranch owners to get titles, says Tunai

Narok, Kenya: Plot and ranch owners are set to get title deeds within two months from now.

Governor Samuel Tunai said for many years, the issue of title deeds has hindered growth and development of Narok town, which is a tourist town, as many plot owners do not have security to present to money-lending institutions for loans.

Tunai said he had agreed with the Lands ministry to provide about 100 surveyors to demarcate the entire town in a two-month crash program after which title deeds will be issued to the respective land owners.

"Narok town has not been able to fully develop since most of the plots do not have legal ownership documents and its an issue that we want to deal with it once and for all before 2017 so that our people will embark on developing their lands," said Tunai.

He added: "Before we launch the exercise, we are giving a window period of two months for anyone with a complain regarding any plot within the town to present it to the lands office so that the project will kick off in earnest without interruption from May 15 this year."

genuine owners

Double land allocation, the governor said, has also been a challenge within the county headquarters adding that the surveyors will effectively address the issue and authenticate the genuine owners of such plots.

Tunai pointed out that group ranches in areas of Narusura and parts of Narok East have also been ear-marked for issuance of title deeds.

At the onset of devolution, Narok town has witnessed the development of new buildings, hotels and has potential of expansion.

The recent plans by the governor to relocate Narok town to 600-acre at Limatet were met with resistance from a section of Maasai elders and legislators who opposed it claiming the community was not consulted.
