Four suspected thugs killed in Githurai 44, Nairobi

Four suspected thugs were Thursday morning lynched by a mob in Githurai 44, Nairobi.

The men were accused of attacking and robbing a bodaboda rider of his motorbike after stabbing him to death. The other bodaboda riders ganged up with locals and hunted down the four before, killing them.

Police say they arrived at the scene long after the four men had died.

“They were burnt beyond recognition before we arrived at the scene but investigations are ongoing,” said Kasarani OCPD Francis Sang.

Police discourage against mob lynching and want the public to surrender suspects to them.

“We urge Nairobi residents to stop lynching suspects and hand them over to us. It is criminal,” said Sang.

Locals said a gang of about six has been operating in the area. On Wednesday night, one of the deceased approached a rider, on pretence that he was a customer, saying he wanted to be dropped few meters away.

According to police and locals, the customer turned out to be a thief and stabbed the rider to death before escaping with his motorbike.

It was then that the other riders ganged up and protested the killing before they hunted down the alleged customer whom they knew well.

Sang said the mob forced the man to reveal where his accomplices were in the dawn operation and later stoned and burnt them to death.

The bodies were later moved to the mortuary.
