Taxi driver brutally murdered, vehicle stolen

NAIROBI, KENYA: A taxi driver was brutally murdered in Naivasha and the body dumped along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway as the thugs made away with his brand new vehicle.

Panic and anxiety gripped fellow drivers in the lakeside town after confirmation of the sad news.

A witness Mwangi Muraya said he left last night to Nairobi and was expected to be back by 9pm but he failed to show up.

Muraya said his phone were switched off and a search began only to get reports that there was body dumped along the highway.

"We quickly informed the police who accompanied us during the search only to find the body at Ngarariga area near Limuru town," he said.

He said no one saw who the customers were and called on police to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.

"He had just purchased the new vehicle from a bank loan and the attackers must have been well aware of that," he said.

A senior police officer who sought anonymity confirmed the incident adding that the issue was being handled by their counterparts from Kiambu County where the occurrence happened.

"We were informed of a Taxi Driver who could not be traced and we immediately sent a signal to Kiambu where the body was found," said the officer.

He said that the body was taken to Nairobi City Mortuary and called on anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the culprits and recovery of the vehicle to help police.
