Kiambu County Commissioner Esther Maina warns Mungiki adherents

Kiambu County Commissioner Esther Maina has warned resurgent Mungiki elements saying they will be dealt with as per the law.

Speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebrations on Friday, the commissioner said they were aware that a number of youth from Kiambaa sub county attended the burial of the wife of former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga. “Let the people know that Mungiki is still an outlawed sect. What business do you have attending the burial of a someone who died more that six months ago. People of Karuri and Banana, we are watching you,” she said.

The commissioner also announced that they had put in place stringent measures to ensure there will be peace during the festive season.

“If anybody is caught on the wrong, be assured you will spend your Christmas holiday as a guest of the State, as we will lock you in the cells before arraigning you in court once they (courts) resume,” he added.

She warned those intending to over-indulge in alcohol consumption during the festive season that they, too, would be arrested and charged as the government will not tolerate such kind of behaviours.
