Police "imposter" Joshua Waiganjo case to be heard in January

The charges facing former Rift Valley provincial police boss John M'mbijiwe, former Anti-Stock Theft Police Commander Michael Remi Ngugi and police "imposter" Joshua Waiganjo will be heard heard for three consecutive days in January at the Nakuru Law Courts.

The dates were fixed yesterday by Senior Principal Magistrate Louise Komingoi who directed that the cases proceed as from January 14, 15 to16 as earlier slated after Mr Waiganjo's lawyer, Kamau Chumba, requested for an earlier mention date of the cases.

The magistrate further directed that the matter be mentioned tomorrow when all the accused are expected to be in court. The cases earlier filed at the High Court in Nairobi were moved to Nakuru at the request of Mr Waiganjo.

The three are jointly facing charges ranging from abuse of office to police impersonation. Waiganjo, currently held at Naivasha Maximum Prison, is accused of falsely presenting himself as a police officer and assuming the rank of a senior superintendent.

Mr M'mbijiwe faces charges of ordering a junior officer to release motor vehicles to Waiganjo with full knowledge that Waiganjo was not the rightful owner.

Mr Ngugi is facing charges of abuse of office over allegations he allowed Waiganjo to use a motor vehicle in abuse of the authority of his office.
