Rangers capture killer lioness in Tsavo, says Senior Warden Dickson Too

A stray lioness that had invaded human settlements and started killing livestock has been captured by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers and returned to the Tsavo National Game Park.

Conservation Senior Warden Dickson Too said the lioness was captured at Mgeno village in Mwatate on Saturday.

This follows complaints from residents that stray lions were killing their livestock.

"Residents complained that a wild animal had been killing their livestock. The lioness has been evading our traps for some time but we have now captured it," Too said yesterday.

The incident comes at a time the Government is grappling with persistent human-wildlife conflict in the region, considering that about 60 per cent of the land area is occupied by the Tsavo ecosystem.
