Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero threatens inefficient county staff with sack

NAIROBI, KENYA: Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has threatened his county workers to change their attitude towards offering their services or face the sack.

Kidero said that some of county employees have not changed their attitude towards service delivery and are still clinging to the old defunct City Council mentality.

He warned that there were many unemployed Kenyans willing to work and serve the city residents, warning that those who do not want to work should quit immediately.

"We cannot allow workers who sit and idle when Nairobians are waiting for service delivery. Those who cannot work will be sacked and replaced," said Kidero.

The Governor hinted that in order to cut cost, they will fabricate huge dustbins and place them at strategic points in estates to ensure the environment is kept clean.

He said instead of tendering for the truck dustbins which cost Sh 350,000, they will make them at the County garage facility which has the capacity to make more than a thousand of such.

"We will fabricate the truck dustbins and place them at the estates for the residents to empty the garbage. This will reduce time wastage in collection and ensure the environment remains clean," said Kidero.

The Governor made the remarks when he made a surprise visit at the County garage and caught the employees unaware.
The infuriated Governor put to task Chief Mechanical Engineer Tom Obiero to explain why there were garbage trucks in the yard instead of collecting garbage from the estates.

Obiero was at pains to explain how seven of the newly bought 32 garbage trucks were waiting to be serviced.
