Government to distribute drought-tolerant seeds to 11 counties

Tharaka Nithi, Kenya: The national government will distribute 199 tonnes of assorted drought-tolerant seeds to farmers around the country this planting season.

The project worth Sh30 million is set to benefit eleven counties and 30 sub-counties. This is according to the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei. In a speech read by Permanent Secretary for Livestock Fred Sergor, during the World Food Day held at Igamatundu in Tharaka Nithi County on Friday  the Ministry of agriculture, said the project is under the Traditional High Value Crops programme which was established in 2006.

The initiative aims at improving access to quality seeds of traditional high value and drought tolerant crops through community seed multiplication.
