Court strikes out case challenging Governor Hassan Joho’s degree

MOMBASA COUNTY: The High Court siting in Mombasa has thrown away an application that sought to challenge Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s academic qualifications.

A three-judge bench delivered the decision to drop the proceedings of the case.

Justices Christine Meoli, Edward Muriithi and Martin Muya ruled on a preliminary objection by Joho opposing the hearing of a petition filed by Mr Silas Otuke.

In the case, the petitioner claimed the governor does not have a degree, which is a requirement for the position, and wants his appointment and that of his deputy nullified.

He also wanted all nominations and appointments by the two to be declared null and void.

Further, he wanted the court to order a fresh election to fill the two offices of governor and deputy governor.
