MPs pledge to support anti-jigger campaigns in their constituencies

Othaya, Kenya: Four women MPs have pledged to support the war against jigger infestation in their constituencies.

Mary Wambui (Othaya), Mary Mbugua (Nakuru), Jane Apollos (Laikipia) and Alice Wahome of Kandara have organised a series of functions in conjunction with Ahadi Kenya trust, to eradicate jiggers.

Ahadi Kenya CEO Dr Stanley Kamau urged the MPs to ensure schools in their constituencies have cemented classroom floors.

"The saddest thing is to see that in the 21st century pupils are learning in schools with uncemented floors. Why then do we have Constituency Development Fund and Pesa mashinani," he asked.

Ms Wambui urged parents to take good care of their children, saying they are their investments and are likely to rely on them in their old age.

"If you neglect these children, nobody will come to check on you in old age," she said.
