Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma mobilises support for referendum

KISUMU, KENYA: Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma has called on the residents to fully support the forthcoming referendum.

Speaking recently in the region, Ranguma said he will personally mobilise residents and asked residents to get their voters' cards and identity cards (IDs) in readiness for the hyped referendum which seeks to change the Law and give counties more funds.

The Governor said that the region has been denied development by previous regimes and allocating more funds would help jumpstart growth and better living standards for the residents.

''We are kin on referendum to give counties more funds for development. We will be working more closely with Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leadership to get the needed signatures,'' he said.

The call comes as governors from the Jubilee wing of Government started pulling out of the referendum debate claiming that the idea has been hijacked by the opposition, raising fears about whether the idea will succeed.

So far, The National Alliance (TNA) governors have announced that they have abandoned the mission and said they would seek alternative ways to have their demands addressed.

Ranguma however challenged the National Assembly and Senate to pass the referendum Bill once brought before them to spare the country from going to the vote.
