Women charged with child cruelty

A woman who attempted to sell her two children for Sh400,000 in Narok yesterday appeared in court charged with infringing on children rights, cruelty and neglect of them.

Zainabu Akumu, 35, who appeared before the Narok Senior Resident Magistrate Temba Sitati pleaded guilty to all the charges, saying she was financially constrained and wanted to sell the children to raise money to fend for other six children in Mumias, Western Kenya.

"I am a single mother of eight who is financially unable to raise them. I wanted to sell the two to get money to raise others and educate them," said Zainabu.
