'Get rid of land grabbers'

Kisumu, Kenya: Kisumu County has been challenged to emulate the national government in tackling land issues affecting its residents.

Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative (Team), a civil society group based in Kisumu, has told the county government  to start probing land issues.

"We are late with the issue of land. The Governor of Kisumu Jack Ranguma is actually living in a rented house. Where is the house of the former mayor where he should be living?" asked the group's Executive Secretary George Owuor.

Mr Owuor questioned why the Kisumu County Assembly has not come up with a piece of legislation to start arresting land grabbers.

Owuor said it is high time the National Land Commission came out clearly and gave counties a road map on how they intend to implement the issues of land scams.

"It is unfortunate it had to start from Lamu. If I go to my local village today, grabbers are everywhere," he said.
