Bhang plantations discovered near two schools in Nakuru

Nakuru, Kenya: There was anxiety in a Nakuru estate after bhang plantations were discovered near two public schools, Thursday.

Police and public health officials uprooted the plant along Baringo Road near Kenyatta Secondary School and Mama Ngina School.

County Alcohol and Drug Abuse programme Coordinator Margaret Kemunto who led the operation said they were alerted by members of the public.

"We inquired about the plantations from the principals of one of the schools, but they were not aware of the narcotics, neither were the students," she said.

Following the discovery the officer said they had launched a public awareness campaign to inform the public about the effects of drugs.
