MCAs grill nominees for county posts

Murang’a, Kenya: Presence of illicit brews in Gatanga district featured prominently at the Murang'a county assembly during vetting of a career administrator who is seeking appointment as county secretary.

Gatanga Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Mukuria appeared before the vetting panel chaired by assembly speaker Nduati Kariuki.

He was taken to task over his ability to implement liquor laws that have been passed by the county assembly to eradicate illicit brews in the district.

Mukuria said he is confident that if appointed, the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act will be implemented to the letter, owing to his experience as a provincial administrator since 1987.

He blamed presence of illicit liquor in Gatanga on the district's closeness to Kiambu County, saying he has organised several raids that have helped minimise alcoholism in the region.

At the same time, Njumbi High School principal Gerrison Nyagia Reuben appeared for vetting as county principal secretary for education.

Nyagia, who holds various positions in educational committees, said he is equal to the task and pledged to revamp the sector.
