Top assembly leaders ousted

Nyandarua, Kenya: Nyandarua members of the county assembly yesterday ousted majority leader Mwangi Gichuki and his minority counterpart Githinji Ngumba.

The MCAs took a vote at the county assembly and agreed to relieve the two of their duties for allegedly failing to discharge their duties as per members' expectations.

Kipipiri ward MCA, Michael Kirumba, said elderly MCAs were charged exorbitant insurance fees on monies allocated to members for car loans and house mortgages.

While each MCA had been allocated Sh5 million for car and mortgage, Kirumba said the elderly were being charged higher fees.

"Each of the elderly MCAs in this house has been deducted Sh223,714 as credit life insurance by the bank giving us the money while the youthful MCAs have not been charged anything. These two leaders remained silent over this issue and as such failed to protect the rights of the elderly who are the majority in this House," Kirumba said.
