GSU officers to create buffer zone in KPL derby

AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia fans have been assured of security when the two rivals clash in tomorrow's return leg tie of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Mashemeji Derby at Nyayo Stadium.

In yesterday's derby security and arrangement press briefing, KPL head of security GMT Ottieno confirmed the deployment of over 200 police officers with a creation of a buffer zone, occupied by General Service Unit officers, at Gate Six to separate the two sets of fans.

"We have called for up to 200 police officers, among whom will be three platoons of GSU and the rest will be Administration Police and Regular Police. Unlike the previous derbies, GSU will cordon terraces above gate six to segregate fans of the two teams. Entry gates will be 2 and 3 on the Gor side, 9 and 10 on the AFC side. AFC and Gor will each have ten stewards in the stadium, but they will not be allowed on the pitch," said Ottieno.

Unlike previous matches, hosts AFC Leopards have gone digital with those intending to attend the game now required to make the payment through Safaricom Mpesa service.

VIP and terrace tickets which are retailed at Sh1000 and Sh300 respectively can be purchased through Paybill number: 964850, Account number 2316(VIP) and 2317(Terraces).
