Chemelil Sugar wants tough action against Gor hooligans

Chemelil Sugar are putting together a raft of pre-conditions for future matches involving Gor Mahia, FeverPitch can reveal.

The sugar-belt club said three of their officials and a fan suffered injuries when Gor fans and a section of their ‘stewards’ roughed them up during their 3-1 loss at Nyayo Stadium on September 10.

Chemelil officials led by the chairman Robert Nyakundi yesterday condemned the acts of hooliganism by Gor fans and a section of stewards, saying they and their club have been victims and would engage Kenyan Premier League to set their conditions of playing against the 15-times champions.

“During our match against Gor Mahia at Nyayo immediately Chemelil Sugar levelled scores 1-1, Gor fans and more so a section of their stewards unleashed violence on three of our club officials and fans with one suffering injuries,” club organising secretary Steven Aluoch said.

“I was roughed-up and hurled out of the stadium by a section of Gor stewards and fans as uniformed policemen watched and failed to take charge and restore order,” Aluoch said.

Pressed to explain what they would do, the officials said they have to first officially contact KPL, but assured they would not take to the field to play Gor Mahia if their conditions were not met.

The club officials said the perennial acts of hooliganism by a section of Gor fans and stewards appear to be always well choreographed.

Chemelil Sugar fans Caleb Ochieng’ and Zacheus Ojwang Okello, the latter suffering serious injuries on his right thigh, were forcibly ejected out of Nyayo stadium by the Gor goons during the match.

Okello, who is being treated at Ogen dispensary in Kopere in Muhoroni sub-county is to record a statement at the Muhoroni sub-county Chemelil Police Station upon being discharged from hospital.

Okello said there is need for strong disciplinary measures to be taken against Gor Mahia as a club and the team’s unruly fans by concerned football administration officials.

Chemelil Sugar’s team manager in-charge of administration Tom Ochong’ was also roughed-up by a section of Gor fans aided by stewards and ejected out of Nyayo stadium and did not watch the second-half of the encounter.
