How to use a beauty blender

Skin Care

I just got my beauty blender and I couldn’t wait to try it out. The beauty blender is an egg-shaped sponge that was created in 2007. It’s made of non-latex foam which means that it’s suitable for all skin types, and is non-allergenic. According to many makeup artists, this is the best tool that you can use to apply foundation.

How does it work?

Wet the sponge in water until it’s completely saturated. Squeeze out the excess water until the sponge is just slightly damp. Dip the sponge in liquid, cream or powder foundation and lightly bounce it around your skin. This motion known as stippling, ensures that your makeup blends well and looks natural. Use the wide rounded side to apply make-up all over your face and the pointed tip of the sponge to get to the hard to reach areas such as the corner of the eyes and nose.

Uses:

• Sunscreen application: my daughter loves to apply sunscreen, but when she does, her face is often full of white streaks. Did you know that a beauty blender is the perfect tool to apply sunscreen? Put a small amount of sunscreen on the back of your hand and dip the sponge in it. Press the sponge onto your skin in the same manner that you would apply your foundation. • Erase makeup errors: when you have too much blush on, or too much foundation, don’t panic, as the beauty blender comes to the rescue. When you use a dry beauty blender, it acts as an eraser. Drag the sponge on your skin and it will lift away any excess makeup. • Apply face products: For perfect application, use it to apply moisturiser, primer, or night cream. Always use it wet so that the product sits on the sponge and is not absorbed into the sponge, so as not to waste your products. • Apply coloured make-up: you can use your beauty blender to apply blusher, highlighter, eyeshadow, and lipstick. You could use the same subtle color on your lips, cheeks and eyes. This would work with a subtle peach, pink, or orange. • Contouring: dab the pointed tip in the darker shade of foundation and apply on cheekbones, the outer edge of the nose, the top of your forehead, and beneath your lower lip. Use the base of the beauty blender to blend.

Don’t forget that the sponge works best when wet. Wash it often with mild soap and allow it to dry completely. Don’t store a damp sponge in your make-up bag.
