French coach to watch Wacu, Agala in finals

Chamalières Volleyball Club coach Atman Toubani is in the country to watch his players Brackcides Agala and Jane Wacu feature for Kenya against Algeria in Saturday's final of the 17th edition of the African Cup of Nations Championships, at the Kasarani Gymnasium.

The duo whose one year contract expired in May 2015 after inspiring the French side to Division One League in the play offs last month, are expected to renew their contracts if the recent developments are anything to go by.

Standard Sports can authoritatively reveal that apart from the contract renewal talks with the Malkia Strikers captain and setter, Toubani who graced the national team’s training has been impressed by Kenya Pipeline right attacker Esther Wangeci and her Prisons Kenya counterpart Evelyn Makuto.

“He arrived on Thursday at 6 am and attended our training session. He was pleased with the level of our game. For your information he is interested in Makuto and Wangeci and will be scouting for four more players,” said a national team official who sought anonymity.

Speaking after attending Malkia Strikers’ training session, Toubani said he is optimistic of renewing the pair's contracts.

“I hope Wacu and Agala will renew their contracts. Kenya has proven to be a powerhouse in Volleyball in Africa churning out good players and that's why I am here,” he said.

"They are part of the five foreign players who played a major role in our promotion to Division One last season.”
