Man city willing to make Utd and Chelsea target Paul Pogba highest-paid midfielder

Manchester City want to make Paul Pogba the best paid midfielder in the world.

City have guaranteed him £250,000-a-week AFTER tax in a bid to see off the interest of Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, Manchester United and Chelsea.

City have also received a boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, who has let the deposed champions know he will be open to talks about the managers’ job - though they will have to wait until he feels the time is right.

Mirror Sport revealed last week City are willing to pay £70million for Pogba, the 22-year-old Juventus midfielder who is the hottest property in Europe.

But the personal terms on offer for Pogba are designed to blow everyone away, with Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, Manchester United and Chelsea also in the hunt.

They have offered him a deal worth £12.5million-a-year net, the equivalent to £385,000 a week before tax.

It would dwarf even the earnings of City’s Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure, who is on £220,000-a-week and is a target for Inter Milan.

Despite City’s 6-0 crushing of QPR yesterday the club still hope they can persuade Guardiola to take over from current boss Manuel Pellegrini this summer.

For now Guardiola, 44, is resisting City’s attempts to lure him to England for next season and the Spaniard has instead indicated they stand a better chance next summer when his current Bayern contract ends.

City are pushing hard to try and persuade Guardiola, who worked with Etihad bosses Txiki Begiristan and Ferran Soriano at Barcelona, to change his mind and make the move sooner.

And City hope Guardiola’s current difficulties at Bayern will play into their hands.

Guardiola is under mounting pressure after four defeats in a row since clinching his second Bundesliga title last month.

One loss saw them dumped out of the German Cup by fierce rivals Dortmund and another - a 3-0 semi-final first leg reverse at Barca last week - left Bayern’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

Behind the scenes politics has also left Guardiola on shaky ground.

While the German’s rate Guardiola as the best manager in the world, some at Bayern are concerned about what they consider to be a growing Spanish influence at the club since his arrival.
