Government and Kenya Body Building Federation puts rogue promoters on notice

The Government and Kenya Body Building Federation (KBBF) have warned rogue promoters and splinter groups to desist from using the federation's name for personal gains.

The Government yesterday said that it does not recognise the Fitness, Instructors, Bouncers and Body Builders Association (Fibba) that has been organising body building activities in Coast.

"The only recognised body for body builders is KBBF whose office was duly elected on August 23, 2014 in Nairobi in the presence of Government officials," said Kenya National Sports Council Treasurer (KNSC) Charles Nyaberi.

KNSC Deputy Administration Secretary James Akama warned that legal action would be taken against sprouting outfits that undermine recognised federations.

According to Akama, KBBF, under the chairmanship of Chris Omedo (pictured), is the only federation responsible for sanctioning contests.

"Any other contest including the weekend's Mr Kilifi is null and void. The Government does not endorse it," said Akama.

Akama said the Government recognises the recently held Mr Kitale contest and will help KBBF with the forthcoming contests including next year's Mr Kenya and Mr Carnivore and Mr Nakuru (November 22), Mr Kericho (November 29) and Mr Nairobi in December.

Since taking over the office Omedo and his team have so far set up eight branches to spread the game to other counties.

Omedo said his all inclusive office is extending an olive branch to splinter groups.

"I am urging them (splinter groups) to come so we can reason and work together. I am advising them to consult with the federation before organising contests," said Omedo.

KBBF immediate former chairman Gerald Mwangi said: "I am urging members to consult the office for help before embarking on tournaments."
